History

Silkworm, Inc. began as a two-man screen printing operation in the summer of 1981. The recent high school graduates bought several pieces of used printing equipment, set them up in the 750 square foot basement of the Chambers' home on Hortense Street in Murphysboro, Il, and began hustling their first accounts.

The business moved to its Walnut Street location in 1985, and was incorporated in 1987. Operation here began in 2500 square feet. Under the direction of Bob Chambers, and several committed employees, Silkworm soon expanded to the full length of the building, using 5,500 square feet and employing twenty-five employees. In 1994, to improve production capacity, Silkworm purchased its current building just off Route 13 East of Murphysboro and totally remodeled its interior. By doing so, Silkworm expanded its operation space to 21,000 square feet. In 2001, an additional 460 square feet were added to provide a larger showroom space for client consultations. Currently, Silkworm operates in 21,460 square feet and employs an average of 50 people.
